IN CASE OF ACCIDENT
Your safety comes first when there has been an accident. Of course, the aftermath always leaves one to deal with the repairs. Here are some things you will need to know:
-
See that you obtain as much information as you can right at the scene of the accident. If the accident also involved another person or persons, try to obtain the information on their insurance card. This can minimize any delays in making any claims, which can prevent you from having to wait for the accident report from the police department.
-
It is vital that you report the accident right away to the appropriate insurance company. This may be your own insurance provider or the other motorist’s, depending on who is at fault. If there is a doubt of who was at fault, go ahead and report it to your own insurance company to be on the safe side and they will let you know the appropriate steps to take.
-
Get your vehicle towed directly to Heartland Autobody. If unable to be towed directly here, give us a call and we can help you arrange for towing services through our preferred towing provider.
-
If a rental car is required, it is important to contact your insurance company. They will help you make arrangements with companies that will be covered under your insurance plan if your policy allows for rental coverage. If you are not at fault, be aware that the other insurance company covering the claim is required to provide you with a rental vehicle during the repairs.
-
If your vehicle has an alarm or other disabling devices, please be sure to leave the corresponding transmitters to operate these items with us as well as for instructions on how to use the devices to avoid possible delays.
-
Take the time to remove personal items from your vehicle. This may include extra keys, parking passes, sunglasses, etc. It will save you some time and any inconveniences involved in taking another trip to our facility to retrieve them later.
-
Don’t forget to leave your child’s car seats in the car! Every seat manufacturer recommends the replacement of those after a collision whether they were occupied or not and it is not safe to continue using them after a collision.
As always, if you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at 815-879-7767
We are here to assist you in any way possible.
